Abstract

The economic growth of a region is strongly influenced by the smooth flow of traffic. The
movement of freight by highway in Manado leads to the problem of traffic jams. To solve the congestion, it
is necessary to know the traffic characteristics and the pattern of the origin of the destination. Through a
curbside survey in which the respondents were freight drivers, the origin - destination matrix (OD matrix)
was created. The traffic characteristics and the pattern of origin of the goods transport were analyzed. The
results of the research showed that the total movement was dominated by entrance to exit of Manado from
Kairagi to Tuminting with the movement of freight vehicles amounting to 27.03% of the total movement of
goods transport in the study area. It was concluded that the users should operate at night for reduce a
congestion and that a goods-holding zone should be established.
